NC State Swimming and Diving Falls to Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The NC State swimming and diving fell to conference rival Virginia on Saturday. The No. 23 Wolfpack men (9-2, 6-2 ACC) dropped the contest to the No. 15 Cavaliers 170-123, while the women were topped by No. 11 Virginia, 161-73.

The NC State men won eight events at the meet. The Pack started the meet strong by winning the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:29.94. The team also won the 400-freestyle relay (2:58.79). Both times were good for NCAA B standards.

Ian Bishop won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 55.78, while Maximus Litvinov took third (56.68). Barrett Miesfeld won the 100 butterfly in a time of 48.39.

In the 50 freestyle, Jonathan Boffa finished first in an NCAA B standard (20.23), followed by Joe Martin in third (20.77). Boffa also took gold in the 100 freestyle, swimming a season-best NCAA B cut of 44.09. Tyler Early placed third in that event in 45.92.

Boffa's time in the 50 freestyle is the sixth-best time in school history, while his time in the 100 freestyle is the fourth-best mark.

Hudson Rains placed first on both the one-meter board (337.95) and the three-meter (389.48).

Early took third place in the 200 freestyle (1:39.73), while Matt Thomas finished fourth (1:40.32) and John Newell placed fifth (1:42.14). Brian Via took third in the 1000 freestyle (9:22.58).

Ivan Kopas finished second in the 200 backstroke (1:48.13), and fourth in the 100 backstroke (49.89), while Andrew Tollefson finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:03.13).

The Wolfpack women took home three first-place finishes, including a win in the 200-freestyle relay (1:32.73), good for an NCAA B cut and the second-best time in school history.

Hannah Hopkins won the one-meter diving event with a score of 286.65, while teammate Rachel Mumma picked up a win on the three-meter (295.73).

Kirsten Esplin and Christina McCann finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke, swimming times of 1:06.02 and 1:06.08, respectively. Esplin also took home a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.06).

In the 50 freestyle, Hannah Freyman placed second (23.55), while Marifrances Henley placed third (23.60). Julianna Prim placed third in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.71.
