George Bovell , a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, was injured yesterday in a car accident.
Bovell, 28, was headed from a training session when the BMW he was driving collided with a truck in the morning hours in Mayaro.
Sports Minister and Bovell’s Coach Anil Roberts was quoted saying, "The car is severely damaged, I saw some pictures of it, but what seems to have happened is that the brakes locked up and there was a collision.”
"He was able to lean to the passenger side, which meant that his body was protected from the brunt of the impact. “
"He has severe lacerations to his forehead, which has been stitched up at the Sangre Grande District Hospital.” Roberts then added that a CT scan had been taken and everything had been cleared.
The injuries that Bovell sustained have interrupted his training schedule, but it isn’t clear whether or not his injuries will affect his preparation for the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico later this year.
