Gatorzone.com reports head swimming coach Gregg Troy has been voted the American Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
Having been named the 2010 NCAA Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year and the 2010 SEC Men’s Swim Coach of the Year 2010 has become a very busy year for the Gator head coach. That busyness paid off with a record breaking year for the men’s and women’s squads.
The first pay day came in the form of a women’s National Championship (their first in 28 years). The women’s squad tallied 36 All-American performances and five school records during the four day meet to edge out the second place Cardinals.
The second pay day came from Coach Troy’s men’s squad who finished top-five at NCAA’s for the seventh time under his guidance. In route to Gator’s top-five finish the men’s squad scored 364 points (the most in school history), had three national titles, and five top-eight relay finishes. The Gator men finished the 2010 championship meet with 38 All- America performances.
In regards to his most recent award Coach Troy said, "It's a tremendous honor to be named the Coach of the Year by the ASCA. With that said, this award truly represents the talented student-athletes we had in our program last year as well as the tremendous coaching staff I had around me. I especially want to thank associate head coaches Anthony Nesty and Martyn Wilby, as well as strength and conditioning coordinator Matt DeLancey, who were instrumental in our success this past season."
The Gator article reports that the ASCA Coach of the Year Award, “is given annually to the individual whose coaching effectiveness has contributed the most towards American Swimming Excellence at the World Level.” The winner is then chosen by the ASCA Board of Directors.
