Two more National High School Records were broken in what seems to be a magical year for high school swimmers. The latest two records to fall came from the women’s 50-yard freestyle and the women’s 200-yard Medley Relay.

The 50-yard freestyle national independent high school record was broken by St. Francis’ Maddy Schaefer at the Central Coast Section swim meet. Schaefer swam a prelim time of 22.26 to break the previous record of 22.39 held by Gulliver Prep’s Christina Swindle. She then lowered the record again by going 22.24 during the evenings final.  The overall record is held by Kara Lynn Joyce at 22.04.

The second record came from Carondelet’s 200-yard medley relay squad with a time of 1:40.80. That time beats the old overall national record of 1:41.63 set by The Baylor School in 2009.
